Now, you will hear a lot about carbon build up in the paramotor community and people will use the amount of buildup (or lack of) as a judgement of how good an oil is. This is a TERRIBLE way to judge oil quality. I had the opportunity to try a few different brands of oil on several Moster 185’s during my time at Aviator. Not only did I monitor the carbon build up but I also kept track of cylinder wear within the first 50 hours of engine use. Some engines with lots of carbon build up showed very little cylinder wear when measured with a dial bore gauge while some other oils burned clean as a whistle but showed SIGNIFICANT cylinder wear!

How did Amsoil do in that period of testing? By FAR showed the lowest wear of any of the other oils and as a bonus the combustion chamber of all of the Moster185’s were nearly spotless after 50 hours. I can tell you that the Vittorazi recommended oil (Motul710) did a great job of both criteria but Amsoil Saber truly shined above and beyond!

If you’re not comfortable with those ratios, Saber is manufactured to be mixed safely at any ratio which is it’s sole purpose, being a 2 stroke oil of such high quality that it can be mixed at any ratio and still provide substantial wear protection. Saber is a great choice of oil if you’re typically flying at a cruise RPM range in a more recreational flying capacity. If you’re more the type to fly aggressively with a whole lot more time at full throttle or higher RPMs then the additional protection package of Dominator 2 stroke oil at 50:1 is a smart choice to give your engine a higher level of protection at more extreme use cases.
